    Kalle Mattson is an experimental folk rock band based in Ottawa, Canada that has risen to become one of the area's most promising up-and-coming experimental acts, and could easily end up having implications for the folk rock genre as a whole. Led by Kalle Wainio who performs under the pseudonym that is also his band's namesake, the group broke onto the Canadian indie scene with the release of his self-produced EP "Telescope" in 2008. Following about a year of successful touring and live performances of his work, Kalle Mattson further ensured his band's success with the release of the 2009 album Whisper Bee, which garnered positive press from both Canadian and British music publications, as well as numerous award nominations.

    Seattle-based outfit La Luz is a rock and roll outfit that recalls the 1960s girl-group sound with a fusion of doo wop, pop and surf rock sounds. The all-female outfit offers four part harmonies and even the occasional choreographed dance steps during live shows, but adds in lush reverb and twangy riffs to give its music a rougher edge. La Luz released its debut EP, Damp Face, in 2012.
