Millennium Place, located in scenic Sherwood Park in Strathcona County of Alberta, is a fabulous fitness center and health club. Facilities at the center include an indoor skating rink, a gymnasium equipped with the latest fitness gear, an indoor swimming pool, a basketball court, a three-lane fitness track, a sophisticated wellness center, some outdoor soccer fields, an on-site physiotherapy clinic and a fine food court. The 'Edu-tainment' center houses a playground for kids and also hosts fitness classes, skating and hockey. Millennium Place can be rented for social functions and private parties. Designed by renowned architect Fred Wood, the 18-hole Broadmoor Public Golf Course was the centerpiece of the new Sherwood Park development. There is equipment rental available, a pro shop, lessons, full catering in the clubhouse and coffee shop, banqueting facilities, a driving range and a practice green. Nestled on the inclines of North Saskatchewan river valley, Sunridge Ski Area is located on the fringes of the Strathcona Science Park, to the east of Edmonton. This ski resort was originally established in 1983 as Hidden Ridge Ski Area; five years later it was renamed Sunridge Ski Area, following a change in management. The expansion the ski resort brought in delightful additions like the tubing park, new lifts and rope tows, chalet for relaxation and snow guns for making snow.
Strathcona Science Provincial Park is a local park that offers plethora of activities like cross country skiing, hiking, mountain biking, cycling and so forth.
Rundle Park is one of Edmonton's chain of river valley parks and is situated to the northeast of the downtown district. Rundle Park Golf Course is a 18-hole course played over 2759 meter (3018 yard) and is particularly suited to older players and youngsters. There's equipment hire and a pro shop, and lessons are available. This course has no dress code. Call for more details.
Raven Crest golf course opened in 1993 and is located northeast of Edmonton along the River Saskatchewan. It is an links-style course played over 6127 meter (6700 yards); it presents many challenges for even the best golfers. The clubhouse facilities are modern with licensed catering along with a pro-shop, equipment rental, lessons, and pre-booking. This course has a dress code, however, so it's wise to check first. Millwoods is a par-72 course played over 6,487 yards (5932 meters). There is equipment rental available, a pro shop, lessons, full catering in the clubhouse and coffee shop, and a driving range. It is located just past the industrial district, off Whitemud Drive in the southeastern corner of the city. This course has a dress code so it is wise to call ahead. You can also learn how to golf or participate in tournaments from time to time. The gold course is an ideal business event venue and can also arrange for banqueting services. A beautiful skiing session or some snowboarding is perfect for those chilly winter afternoons. The Edmonton Ski Club is that one ski resort where you can find all those winter activities that you wait to do all year round. Located on Connors Hill, the ski resort has an area of 25 acres (10.11 hectares). Lessons on skiing and snowboarding are also available at the facility. Vertically Inclined Rock Gym is located near downtown Edmonton. Children and adults will love climbing here. Whether you're a beginner or a pro looking to hone your skills, you'll find a route that matches your skill level on the wall. It has an impressive 3,500 handholds. The space is available for private events and there are corporate programs available as well.
It doesn't matter how old you are; you can learn BMX track racing at the Edmonton BMX Extreme. During race nights, as long as you have the right safety gear, beginners can race free. The track is located at the Argyll Sports Park. Training takes place right after the race night; there is a limited amount of loan bikes and safety equipment available, or you can bring your own. The Grant MacEwan Mountain Club (at the St. Faith's Anglican Church Hall) was founded in 1978 by a group of outdoor enthusiasts; today, membership is over 200 strong. It doesn't matter what level of experience you have; interest and enthusiasm count more. Try attending their monthly meetings and meet new people. You'll find the O'Leary Leisure Centre in the northeastern district of Edmonton. It's popular with families for its 25-meter six-lane swimming pool, a separate diving tank, and a shallow pool for the kids with fun activities. The center has a playground for the under sixes and a whirlpool and sauna. All of the center's facilities can be hired for private functions. Admission varies widely with special offers and packages.
