Vamar Shipwreck Site
Mexico Beach, FL 32456
Originally known as the Kilmarnock, the Vamar was constructed in 1919, and sank close to Mexico Beach in 1942. Although the ship sank under questionable circumstances, the exact cause has never been determined. In 2004, the Vamar was added to the National Register of Historic Places and also became the ninth Underwater Archaeological Preserve in Florida. Today, diving is permitted, but nothing from the site can be excavated or removed.
