One of the Midwest's great movie palaces, the Oriental Theatre follows the grandeur and pomp that was de rigeur
for cinemas built in the Roaring Twenties. This one was built in 1927 and the interior features architecture reminiscent of the Taj Mahal and the exterior proudly has two minarets that jut into the night sky. Today it is owned and operated by the conglomerate Landmark Theaters and shows more contemporary movies. The greatest thing about this theater is that it still retains vestiges of its past with its pipe organ to introduce the film and old-fashioned vending stand. The theater is also known to hold the world record for the film screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show
, they play it every second Saturday of the month and have been doing so since 1978.
