Situated on North Padre Island, the Padre Island National Seashore is known for its pristine beaches, dunes, sea turtles, endangered species and migratory birds. This seashore divides the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre and has a few hypersaline lagoons which are very rare in the world. The primitive wilderness of this seashore takes you through a different realm altogether. The National Seashore opened its doors in 1962. It is one of the few nesting places of the Kemp's Ridley sea turtles and is a bird watcher's paradise with 380 varieties of birds making their home here and thousands of migratory birds can be found on its freshwater ponds and lagoons.
