The Pennsylvania State Lunatic Hospital currently functions under the name of the Harrisburg State Hospital. The construction of the hospital site dates back to 1851. The hospital is established on a massive land area of 183 acres (74 hectares). It signifies the Classical Revival style of architecture. It is a celebrated hospital avenue, more due to the fact that it was the first medical facility in Pennsylvania to serve as a home to the mentally disabled. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
