Formed in Topeka in 1973, Kansas produced some of the biggest hits in classic rock with tracks such as "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind." Beyond those smash singles however, the group spent the majority of its career perfecting a hybrid of British style progressive rock and the hook-based hard rock being made by its American contemporaries. In 1984, Kansas split up, only to reform a year later with an altered lineup and a renewed sense of purpose. In recent years, the group has toured the college circuit while performing with each individual school's orchestra, resulting in a clever twist on the band's symphonic style and a chance to raise money for school music programs.
The Harlem Globetrotters are an American national institution. Though the team does not play on the NBA, its knack for performance flair and on-court theatrics has always gone over well with crowds that are looking for nothing more than an enjoyable basketball spectacle. The team was founded in Chicago in the mid 1920s and ever since the group of talented hoop shooters has been touring and entertaining audiences around the world.
Colorado-based producer Alex Botwin has been working in the electronic music scene for several years now, first playing bass as a member of jammy livetronica outfit Pnuma Trio and later crafting beats under the name Alex B. His project Paper Diamond finds him crafting fleshed-out, fully-realized tracks full of funky breaks, blissed-out synth work and the occasional vocal sample. Paper Diamond's debut EP, Levitate, was released in 2011 on the Pretty Lights Music label.
