Mandan is the county seat of the Morton County and an integral part of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area, separated from Bismarck by the Missouri River. Named after the Mandan tribe that settled here around 1100 CE, this city was first established as a cavalry fort, and finally as a railroad town. The city, today, is one of the major cities in the state, and a hub for tourism. Among the attractions are the Amazing Corn Maize, Dacotah Speedway, and the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park.
