Earl Abel's offers casual family dining at reasonable prices and is a favorite among the locals. For that down-home cooking—the kind your mother used to make—you must try the fried chicken, pot roast or fried catfish dinners. For dessert, try a slice of the triple-layer German chocolate or coconut cake. If it's pie you want, the coconut cream pie is quite tempting.

This upscale neighborhood bar packs 'em in on the weekends, and it's no wonder, considering its incredibly long list of beers, scotches, tequilas, vodkas, liqueurs and more. There are so many offerings, in fact, that the twelve-page menu could double as an encyclopedia. An abbreviated menu offers unusual, but tasty, selections for those with the munchies. Be sure to try the chicken nachos, they are not what you might expect.
Since 1973, this restaurant has been a favorite place for celebrations and good times. The costumed servers are determined to make your visit an enjoyable one: the restaurant's motto is "Dine laughing" and the servers take it seriously. The menu features standard American fare, including steaks, rib eyes, grilled seafood and chicken, all served with fresh baked bread as well as soup and salad from the converted 1952 MG roadster salad bar. The Roman Orgy feast is a vast quantity of brisket, smoked chicken, baby back ribs and mounds of fresh fruit and vegetables. One of the most acclaimed Italian restaurants in San Antonio, Paesano's has been a local favorite for decades. Tourists are most familiar with its location on the River Walk. But the one just north of downtown in Lincoln Heights, near the Quarry Marketplace, offers the same great menu in a different atmosphere. Paesano's in Lincoln Heights is relaxed yet sophisticated, a place to see and be seen. Be sure to visit on a nice day during sunset. The west room has a spectacular sunset view overlooking the Quarry Golf Course—it's a view that you would not want to miss, especially with that special someone. You can choose from a variety of dinners including red snapper sautéed with artichokes, mushrooms and white wine and shrimp with fra diavolo sauce. Of course, the restaurant would not be the same without its namesake, Gamberi Paesano (Shrimp Paesano), which is served as either an appetizer or a dinner.
The décor here is something between a rustic ranch house and a polished hacienda. The interior is fairly standard, with booths and tables, but the wrought-iron tables that dot the patio add a comfortable charm. Strategically placed heaters keep the patio warm and wonderful year-round. A full bar serves several draft and bottled beers as well as a good selection of wine. If you are hungry, drop in for lunch or an early dinner. Start with the divine artichoke dip and then dig in to the pecan breaded chicken. Note that the kitchen stops serving food two hours before closing time.
